Well done to our risk-takers on stage today :)
Many thanks to Sandra who came and read "Room on a Broom" to our class. The door is open for any other volunteers!
Dear Parents,
We have had a very exciting week welcoming Ms.Geraldine Gold into our class. She has been a true asset in guiding the children towards new challenges. Geraldine is a native of Australia and a mum of three children, who attend GWA also. She is very excited to be working with our children and we look forward to a great end to KG1 together The elementary student council representatives would like the whole GWA community to wear red clothing on Thursday, May 4th as a token of our love and appreciation for our support staff, and everything that they do to help us. A 5 AED donation will be accepted to support SEWA.
Sewa is a sanskrit word that means to sacrifice your time and resources for the benefit of others without wanting anything in return. Sewa is a universal concept which involves performing an act of kindness without expectation of reward. It is performed selflessly and without an ulterior motive. At GWA our SEWA projects aim to relieve hardship and bring a little bit of joy to blue collar laborers and non-qualified staff in the UAE. Students are given the opportunity to volunteer and organize collection drives to support this. Dear Parents,
On Thursday, April 27th it is a non uniform school day. Students can wear green and bring in a 5 AED donation to support Eco Council and environment week.
Dear Parents,
Next week we will be starting our final unit of inquiry entitled “How We Express Ourselves - Tell me a Story”. The central idea behind this unit is: People from around the world create and pass on stories in a variety of ways. We will be focusing on the following lines of inquiry:
Some of the questions related to the unit are: 1. How do we tell stories? 2. Why do we tell stories? 3. Who tells stories? 4. How can we tell stories without books? 5. How can we learn more about other cultures through their stories? We will explore story telling through the following methods: orally, books, song and movement, pictures, and puppets. Throughout the course of the unit your child will be engaged in a variety of hands-on activities that will support different developmental skills and concepts including, fine motor, vocabulary building, and communication skills, just to name a few. We appreciate your assistance and support in your child’s education by encouraging discussions or conversations about this unit if they arise outside of school. If you have any stories at home from your culture and would like to share them with the class, please feel free to bring them in. We are also looking for parent volunteers to come into the class and tell us a story from their culture. Please find the curriculum map attached above Kind Regards, Ms.Joyce |
