Seesaw
GWA has a Seesaw for Schools subscription. This means that, as parents, you have continued access to journals from all of your children’s classes, including archived classes inside the Seesaw app or website. You don’t need to download the Seesaw journal at the end of every school year.
However, if you wish to or if you are leaving GWA at the end of this academic year, please follow this link where you will find step-by-step instructions on how to download your children’s journal.

SeeSaw
Dear Parents,
As you know, this year we rolled out Seesaw as the platform for our digital portfolios for the first year in the PYP. As GWA is committed to improving our teaching and learning we would appreciate it if you can take 5 minutes to fill in a short survey about how you have accessed and used Seesaw with your child(ren) this year. This will allow us to continue to develop the use of the App as our digital portfolio platform. This survey will close on May 18. Thank you in advance.

Note from Swimming Instructor
|
Swimming is a compulsory component of the PYP here at GWA; we have our own unique curriculum which builds on the key competencies. We ensure that our pools are heated and maintained at a temperature which is appropriate for the students. We check the temperature of our pool every hour.
If a student is unable to swim for any reason then parents must provide a doctor’s note to Miss Lottie Lucas ([email protected]) in advance of the lesson. An exception will be if they have not been at school the previous days leading up to the lesson then we understand that their immune system may still be low. In this case, a parents note/email to Miss Lucas is acceptable. It should be noted that the common cold is a virus and cannot be caught from a chill or wet hair. Interestingly enough, a low immune system can be susceptible to the virus and swimming in its very nature builds a strong immune system. We look forward to our next swimming lesson with your child. Kind Regards, Lottie Lucas, Mr Rocky and Mr Rey |
Meet the KG1 Teachers
Ms. Joyce
Hello, my name is Aideen Joyce and I am excited for the year ahead with your children. I was born and raised in Ireland. I received an Arts degree from Mary Immaculate University in Ireland where I studied Irish Language and Media Studies. I then went on to complete my PGCE in Primary Education in Stratford, London. I began my teaching career in London in 2007 and stayed for two years. Subsequently I moved back home to Ireland where I worked with children who had English as an additional language (4-5 year olds). The personal rewards I received from this job led me to Dubai, which has been my home for the past 6 years. I have previously been teaching at the International School of Choueifat in Umm Al Quwain, and Regent International School in The Greens, across many age groups from 5-11. This will be my second year at GWA and I am looking forward to helping your children progress and work to the best of their ability. I hope we will have many wonderful experiences to learn and grow in the months ahead.

Ms. McCauley
Hello! My name is Krista McCauley and I have the pleasure of being your child’s Kindergarten teacher this year. I would like to begin with a brief introduction of myself. I am from Tacoma, Washington which is located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. In May 2005, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Pacific Lutheran University, a small private university located right in my hometown. I obtained a reading certificate alongside my teaching degree, equipping me with specialized reading instructional techniques. From 2005-2013, I taught Full Day Kindergarten in Tacoma and relocated to Dubai three years ago, in order to join the GWA family. I am looking forward to an exciting year of working with you and assisting your child with reaching their full potential.

Ms. Wendy White
Welcome to KG1!! My name is Wendy White and I welcome you to GEMS World Academy. I am delighted to be able to get to know you and begin a great year with you and your child. I was born in the United Kingdom. I obtained my BSc degree from University of Gloucestershire. I then completed my Graduate Teacher Training Programme and achieved QTS at Kingston University, Surrey. I have been teaching for 9 years based in the UK. The combination of my parents and sister working overseas for the British foreign office and my love of travel inspired me to work internationally and explore new cultures. I was based in London working within the Early Years/Foundation stage through to Year 6 (equivalent to KG1 - Grade 5). I have taught a variety of subjects with specialisms in Literacy and PE within the National Curriculum and worked with children with special educational needs. This is my second year at GWA and I am looking forward to working with you to help your child reach their personal goals through creative and multi-sensory learning experiences. I look forward to meeting you and your child in due course and wish you well.

Ms. Hart
I would like to welcome you and your child to Kindergarten 1 at GEMS World Academy - Dubai. I am looking forward to getting acquainted with my new students, and I know we will have a fun and educational year. My name is Melanie Hart and I am from Canada. Due to my father’s job in the oil and petro-chemical industry, I have lived in many different counties while growing up. Having this experience allows me to understand the unique challenges that students and their families deal with when moving to a new country. I completed my university education in Canada and received an Honors Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology from Trent University and a Bachelors of Education Degree from the University of Western Ontario. I also have an International Montessori Teaching Diploma from the North American Montessori Center. I have been teaching internationally for eighteen years, and have taught in the UK, USA, Kuwait, Qatar, and UAE. All of my teaching experience has been in early childhood, with thirteen years teaching at the Kindergarten 1 level. I am here with my husband Jeff, who is the Elementary Principal at GWA. This will be our seventeenth year in the Middle East, as we like not having snow for winter. We are parents to a little beagle dog named Scarlett, who enjoys being a spoiled little princess.
